Ramadan Full Moon Adorns Northern Borders Skies, Total Lunar Eclipse Unseen in Arab Region

Arar, March 03, 2026, SPA -- The skies over Northern Borders Region this evening are witnessing the appearance of the full moon of Ramadan, globally known as the 'Worm Moon,' in a striking astronomical scene that adds a special beauty to the night atmosphere and draws the interest of stargazing enthusiasts and those keen on astronomical phenomena.

The name is traditionally given to the full moon in March, which coincides with the reappearance of earthworms in the soil after winter, symbolizing the approach of spring in the Northern Hemisphere.

The full moon coincides with a total lunar eclipse that began at 14:34 Saudi Arabia time. However, the phenomenon will not be visible in the Arab region as it occurs during daylight hours, when the moon is below the horizon.

Astronomy and Space Club member Adnan Khalifa explained that a total lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth aligns directlybetween the sun and the moon, completely blocking sunlight from reaching the moon, turning it a dark red, a phenomenon known as the 'Blood Moon'.

He added that a total lunar eclipse is safe to observe with the naked eye and does not require special equipment, noting that its invisibility in the Kingdom and other Arab countries does not diminish its scientific significance, as it will be observed and documented elsewhere.

He further indicated that tonight's full moon will remain a distinctive and beautiful sight, clearly visible across various regions of the Kingdom, inviting enthusiasts to contemplate it and benefit from it to promote scientific culture and raise astronomical awareness within the community.
