Beijing Chosen as UNESCO-UIA World Capital of Architecture for 2029

Paris, August 06, 2026, SPA -- The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) announced today that Beijing has been designated as the UNESCO-UIA World Capital of Architecture for 2029, jointly with the International Union of Architects (UIA).

The designation was made upon the recommendation of the Joint Committee for the World Capital of Architecture, in recognition of the city's exceptional ability to blend its rich architectural heritage with an innovative vision for sustainable urban development.
