Riyadh, April 15, 2026, SPA -- The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) has begun implementing a tunnel and four overpasses at the intersection of Al-Thumama and Othman bin Affan roads. The major upgrade is part of Al-Thumama Road Axis Development Project (Central Section).

The works include an 850-meter tunnel on Al-Thumama Road and four overpasses with a total length of around 2,000 meters.

Construction is scheduled to begin on Thursday, with the project aiming to improve traffic flow in different directions and strengthen connectivity between key road corridors.

The RCRC said these initiatives come within ongoing efforts to develop the infrastructure and enhance the road network’s efficiency and sustainability, in line with the city’s rapid urban growth.

The commission confirmed coordination with relevant authorities to implement a traffic diversion plan throughout the construction period. Navigation apps and mapping systems have also been updated to ensure optimal traffic flow, while a dedicated page has been made available on the RCRC website to provide updates on the project and related traffic adjustments.

The works are part of RCRC’s Main and Ring Road Axes Development Program, covering more than 500 km of road works across the capital. The program focuses on upgrading major corridors, strengthening interconnections, and adding new roads to build an integrated and sustainable urban transport system, enhance road network efficiency, and improve traffic flow across the city.
