New Qualification System Announced for Esports Nations Cup 2026

Riyadh, June 03, 2026, SPA -- Esports Foundation announced the new qualification mechanisms for exceptional qualification slots (Wildcard Slots) for the Esports Nations Cup (ENC) 2026, including Host Region Slots, Solidarity Slots, and Special Invites.

The initiative aims to expand participation in global competitions based on national team representation while ensuring opportunities for GCC national teams to compete under the highest standards of competitive integrity.

The framework was developed following an extensive study of the structural, technical, and regional challenges that may limit participation in international competitions. It seeks to ensure broader global representation through clear qualification pathways based on precise criteria aligned with the tournament’s overall competitive structure.

Under the new system, Host Region Slots have been introduced as an expanded model of the host-country allocation commonly adopted in major international sporting events. In the inaugural edition of the ENC 2026, the foundation allocated these slots to the host region, guaranteeing representation from GCC countries through a merit-based competitive mechanism across all tournaments. The slots will be awarded to the highest-performing GCC team that has not already qualified through the standard qualification pathways.

The foundation also introduced Solidarity Slots to provide a performance-based pathway for countries and regions that remain underrepresented in Esports. Available across all tournaments except Counter-Strike 2, these slots offer players from eligible nations an opportunity to represent their countries on the global stage.

From July 20 to August 17, countries that have qualified for no more than one tournament may apply for a Solidarity Slot in games where they have strong qualification prospects. The allocation of these slots will be determined in coordination with game publishers.

The foundation noted that all teams and players qualifying through Wildcard Slots will receive full support covering travel and accommodation expenses and will compete under the same regulations and standards as teams qualifying through the regular pathways to the tournament finals.
