Heritage Commission, Makkah Region Development Authority Sign MoU to Strengthen Integration in Protecting, Developing Heritage Sites

Riyadh, July 22, 2026, SPA -- The Heritage Commission signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Makkah Region Development Authority aimed at strengthening cooperation in protecting and developing cultural heritage sites and activating their development role in the region. The agreement contributes to integrating planning, development, and cultural heritage preservation efforts, supporting the sustainability of heritage sites, and enhancing their cultural and economic impact.

The MoU seeks to expand cooperation in promoting local community participation in cultural heritage activities and supporting national efforts to document and study ancient pilgrimage routes. It also includes efforts to develop frameworks for protecting archaeological sites in the region in accordance with established best practices.

Areas of cooperation also include enhancing the exchange of technical expertise among relevant entities, contributing to greater efficiency in managing archaeological sites during development projects, and ensuring their field monitoring in accordance with approved professional standards.
