 Cairo, August 12, 2025, SPA -- Arab Parliament Speaker Mohamed Al-Yammahi welcomes the announcement by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of his country’s intention to recognize the State of Palestine, stressing that this step represents positive progress toward international recognition of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost of which is the establishment of their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital. Al-Yammahi also commended New Zealand’s announcement of studying the recognition of the State of Palestine, praising the growing international positions in support of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination. He urged the other countries of the world to take similar steps, considering such action a legal and moral duty and a genuine contribution to ending the occupation, alleviating the decades-long suffering of the Palestinian people, and enhancing the chances of achieving a just and comprehensive peace in the region. He affirmed that recognizing the State of Palestine is the cornerstone of any just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian cause, reiterating the Arab Parliament’s continued parliamentary and diplomatic efforts to support the Palestinian cause and uphold the rights of the Palestinian people at all levels.
