Jeddah, August 13, 2025, SPA -- Major upsets marked Tuesday evening’s Round of 32 at the Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters in Jeddah, organized by the Saudi Billiard and Snooker Federation in partnership with Matchroom and the World Snooker Tour (WST), under the supervision of the Ministry of Sport. Defending champion Judd Trump was knocked out after losing 5-3 to fellow Englishman Oliver Lines, while Scottish four-time modern world champion John Higgins bowed out following a thrilling 5-4 defeat to England’s Elliott Slessor. Welsh world No. 3 Mark Williams secured his place in the Round of 16 with a 5-3 victory over China’s promising talent Yuan Sijun. He was joined by English snooker legend Ronnie O’Sullivan, who swept compatriot Joe O’Connor 5-0, and Chinese world champion Zhao Xintong, who delivered a commanding 5-0 win over England’s Steven Hallworth with an exceptional performance that strengthened his bid for the title. Reflecting on his unexpected loss, Judd Trump said: “I’m disappointed to lose and exit as the defending champion. Defeat is part of sport, but my opponent deserved the win. I wish him the best for the rest of the tournament, and I’ll come back more determined in future competitions. These experiences give me extra motivation to reclaim the title.” The championship resumes today with the Round of 16 matches, which are expected to determine the quarterfinalists and intensify the competition in one of snooker’s four major global tournaments.
