Washington, August 14, 2025, SPA -- The UN Security Council members have rejected the declaration of a rival administration in regions under the control of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan. They voiced serious concerns regarding the implications of this action, which poses a direct threat to the nation's unity and territorial integrity, potentially escalating the conflict, destabilizing the region, and worsening the humanitarian crisis. In a press statement, the council members reaffirmed their unwavering support to the sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity of Sudan. They stressed that any unilateral actions that undermine these principles jeopardize not only to Sudan's future but also to peace and stability across the wider region. The statement emphasized the importance of resuming discussions among the Sudanese parties to achieve a lasting ceasefire and establish the necessary conditions for a political settlement. This process should involve all political and social groups, ultimately guiding the nation towards a civilian-led transitional phase, which can lead the country towards democratic elections and deliver 'a peaceful, stable and prosperous future' in line with the Sudanese people's aspirations. The council members urged the RSF to lift the siege on El Fasher to halt fighting and to de-escalate tensions in and around the North Darfur capital. This call comes amid concerns over famine and extreme food insecurity, referencing Resolution No. 2736 of 2024. The members condemned the recent attacks in Kordofan Region, which have resulted in the deaths of many civilians. They also voiced deep concern about the impact of the conflict on humanitarian operations. The council urged all parties in Sudan to guarantee safe and unhindered humanitarian access in line with the relevant provisions of international law.
