World Architecture Day Highlights Jazan's Rich Architectural Heritage

Jizan, July 02, 2026, SPA -- Jazan Region marked World Architecture Day, observed annually on July 1, by highlighting its four distinctive architectural styles under the Saudi Architecture initiative, which aims to consolidate national urban identity through styles derived from the geographical, climatic, and cultural characteristics of each region.

The Jazan Municipality hosts four of the 19 architectural styles recognized nationwide: Tihama coast, Tihama foothills, Sarawat Mountains, and Farasan Islands architecture.

Spokesperson at the municipality Eng. Fahd Al-Ahmari stated that Tihama coast architecture reflects simplicity and harmony with the surrounding environment, applied in Jizan city and the governorates of Sabya, Abu Arish, Samtah, and Damad. Tihama foothills architecture prioritizes privacy and climatic conditions through limited openings and local materials such as stone and plaster, found in the governorates of Harub, Al-Aydabi, and Al-Ardah.

Sarawat Mountains architecture preserves the local mountainous character while incorporating contemporary design concepts, prevalent in Al-Dayer, Fayfa, and Al-Reeth governorates. The Farasan Islands' architecture draws inspiration from the marine environment, featuring heritage-inspired decorations that reflect the archipelago's unique historical identity.
