Saudi Infant Evacuated 1000 Km to Save His Life

Doctors supervised the 13-month-old case via telemedicine

Riyadh:  Saudi Health revealed that the life of a 13-month-old baby boy was saved after suffering severe shortness of breath and was evacuated to a hospital in Riyadh.

The Medical Referral Center hotline received a call on Wednesday, August 9, from a hospital in Jeddah (western Saudi Arabia) to request a remote medical consultation with the advisory team specialized in the extracorporeal membrane oxygenation service ECMO, for the condition of an infant diagnosed with acute respiratory distress syndrome. The infant was taken to the ICU, but his condition deteriorated.

Immediately, the doctors specialized in ECMO were linked through a virtual link to follow up on the case, and a specialized medical team took off to Jeddah, to connect the infant to the ECMO device, and evacuate him to King Fahd Medical City in Riyadh, where he resides under medical supervision.
