Saudi Health Volunteers Lend a Hand in Two Holy Cities

1300 Health Heroes help support Ramadan spiritual event

Riyadh:  The Health Volunteer Centre at the Saudi Ministry of Health launched its annual Ramadan campaign for this year, which comes within a framework incorporating religious incentives to encourage all forms of healthcare volunteering. Volunteers from the SAWAEED Health initiative are currently participating in several opportunities available in different locations within the cities of Makkah, Madinah, Jeddah, and Taif.

Health volunteers, whose numbers exceeded 1,300 volunteers this year, work in three main areas, providing core, preventive, and support services. Those who join the cadre of SAWAEED volunteers can provide their services to pilgrims and visitors by working in emergency departments in hospitals, providing screening services to initially sort out incoming cases, and helping the elderly and special needs in their movements within health facilities. The work also includes providing health tips and distributing general awareness material for visitors to the two holy sites.

The Health Volunteer Centre was established in 2019 to manage volunteer initiatives in the health sector and develop the capabilities of participants. It is considered one of the community contribution initiatives within the Ministry's National Transformation Program.
