successful intervention at Jeddah Hospital to remove cataracts from 1-month-old

Riyadh:  East Jeddah's hospital ophthalmology department succeeded in removing cataracts and congenital fibrosis from the eyes of a one-month-old baby.
The Syrian-born was admitted to the hospital after his mother noticed, two weeks after his birth, the presence of white blots on his eyes with an inability to track faces. She immediately went to East Jeddah hospital to be examined by local physicians.

After performing the necessary tests and x-rays, the doctors diagnosed the case as a loss of vision due to the presence of white opacities and lesions in the lens of the eye. A decision was taken to immediately perform surgery under general anesthesia to remove the opacities and part of the vitreous body. The operation, which lasted 3 hours, required using specialized microsurgical equipment for infants.

The baby and his mother have left the hospital, where doctors are continuing to monitor his condition.
